In support of AtlantiCare’s vision to build healthy communities, Growing Green AtlantiCare addresses root causes of chronic disease by increasing consumption of healthy foods through the creation of access points for fresh, local produce.
The AtlantiCare Foundation provides funds through its Growing Green grant program to create and sustain community and school gardens. These gardens improve the nutrition practices of youth and adults through the growth of healthy, sustainable foods complemented by wellness and nutrition programming. In addition, the gardens beautify open spaces and promote collaboration and empowerment among residents and community groups.
To date, AtlantiCare’s Growing Green initiative has funded the construction of 36 school gardens and 13 community gardens in southeastern New Jersey, which collectively has benefited more than 3,600 students and 100 adults.
